Newcastle Airport is situated about 30 kilometres from Newcastle CBD. The city is the second largest in New South Wales in terms of population and is located 160 kilometres north of Sydney in the Hunter Region. Coal mining and transportation is the dominating industry in the region with the Newcastle Harbour exporting the largest amount of coal in the world. The city also has various attractions that draw visitors from all over Australia, such as the annual Newcastle Jazz Festival which takes place every August. Members of the popular Australian band Silverchair are native to the region thus highlighting the importance of music for Newcastle and its residents. The land upon which Newcastle was established was originally occupied by the Awabakal and Worimi people whom lived all over the southern Hunter Region.
