Rockhampton Airport is located 5 kilometres from Rockhampton CBD and is operated by the Rockhampton Regional Council. It currently services close to 1 million travelers per year. It was voted the best major Australian airport in 2007. In 2000 the runways were extended and the airport is now able to handle larger airplanes including the wide-bodied aircrafts such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A340. However, plans are in place to further upgrade the airport facilities in order to accommodate international passengers. The town of Rockhampton markets itself as the beef capital and the gateway to the REAL Australia, with its location in Queensland visitors are within reach of the Great Barrier Reef and the great opportunities this Australian landmark has to offer.
